How to take measurements

ChestMeasure the circumference at the widest point of the chest, under the armpits, with the tape measure horizontal and arms relaxed.

WaistMeasure the circumference at the narrowest point of the torso, just above the navel, without pulling the tape measure tight.

SleeveWith your arm slightly bent, measure from the point of the shoulder, along the outside of the arm and over the elbow, to the wrist bone.

HeightStanding barefoot with your back against a wall, from the soles of your feet to the top of your head.

Tips

Sizes M, XL and 3XL correspond to two EU sizes (e.g., M = 48 or 50): for this reason, their ranges are wider.
Leather jackets are often sold in EU sizes (44, 46, 48…): use the EU Size column. If your measurement falls in the M range, choose 48 for the lower end of the range (chest 94 - 98) and 50 for the higher end (98 - 102); the same applies to XL and 3XL.
If you wear thermal layers, a separate back protector, or an airbag under the jacket, consider the next size up.
This also applies to waterproof jackets designed to be worn over another jacket: choose one size larger.

How to take measurements

WaistMeasure the circumference at the narrowest point of the torso, just above the navel.

HipsMeasure the circumference at the widest point of the glutes, keeping your feet together.

ThighMeasure the circumference at the widest point of the thigh, just below the groin.

InseamBarefoot, measure from the crotch down the inside of the leg to the floor.

Tips

Sizes M, XL and 3XL correspond to two EU sizes (e.g., M = 48 or 50): for this reason, their ranges are wider.
Leather pants are sold in EU sizes: for precise measurements for each individual EU size, consult the Suits table.
If you want to join a jacket and pants with the connection zipper, choose both Alpinestars garments in their respective sizes.
In the riding position, pants shorten: if you are at the limit for the inseam, choose the longer length.

How to measure

WaistMeasure the circumference where you normally wear your jeans, without tightening the tape measure.

Tips

Jeans sizes are in inches (US): size 32 corresponds to EU 48.
Odd sizes (31, 33) are intermediate: choose them if your waist falls halfway between two even sizes.
Technical jeans with protectors fit slightly tighter than regular jeans: if you are between two sizes, take the larger one.

ChestCircumference at the widest point of the chest, under the armpits.

WaistCircumference at the narrowest point of the torso, above the navel.

Tips

Suits are sold in EU sizing. If your measurements fall into different sizes, prioritize chest, inseam, and height.
A new leather suit should feel snug: the leather stretches slightly with use.
Check the fit in the riding position: arms and legs should not pull when you are leaning forward.

How to measure

Hand circumferenceWrap the tape around your palm, just below the knuckles, excluding the thumb. Measure both hands and use the larger measurement.

Tips

Leather racing gloves: they must be a snug fit, because the leather adapts to your hand. If between sizes, choose the smaller one.
Touring, winter, or heated gloves: if between sizes, choose the larger one to avoid reducing insulation.

How to measure

Head circumferencePass the tape about 1-2 cm above the eyebrows and ears, around the most prominent point of the back of the head. Repeat twice and use the larger measurement.

Tips

A new helmet should feel snug on the cheeks and forehead, without painful pressure points: the padding settles with use.
If between sizes, try the smaller one: a loose helmet moves at high speed and provides less protection.

How to measure

Foot lengthPlace your heel against a wall on a sheet of paper, mark the tip of your longest toe and measure the distance in cm. Measure both feet, at the end of the day and wearing the socks you will use while riding.

Tips

Some models are sold in US sizes: in that case, use the US column of the model's table.
The conversion varies by product line: check the correct table, as the difference can be half a size.
Racing boots must fit snugly on the instep for precise control: if between two sizes, choose the smaller one only if there are no pressure points.

Tips

Some layers are sold in dual sizes (e.g., M/L): the Fits column indicates which individual sizes they correspond to. Check the size indicated on the product and use the corresponding row.
Technical layers are designed to be snug: they usually correspond to your jacket size.
